BURN
Across the record, BURN constructs a carefully paced sonic journey. Opening track ‘Pockets’ introduces an eerie, psychedelic atmosphere with layered vocals, synthesizers, and driving percussion, setting the tone for what follows. ‘That’ pushes deeper into shadowy territory, while ‘Remain’ highlights the duo’s growing production depth. In the central run of ‘Broken’, ‘Often’, and ‘Blossom’, BURN expand their distinctive take on trip hop, reworking the genre’s 1990s foundations into a contemporary and emotionally resonant sound. The album closes with ‘At’ and ‘Night’, bringing the journey to a powerful and reflective conclusion.
A striking conceptual thread runs throughout the album with each track carrying a single-word title which, when read in sequence, forms a complete sentence: Pockets That Remain Broken Often Blossom Late At Night. This structure reinforces the narrative arc, turning the tracklist into a poetic extension of the music’s emotional trajectory.
Speaking on the creative direction, Ewa explains: We began experimenting with vocal chops on ‘Pockets,’ and those fragmented sounds ended up reflecting the ‘restless heart’ we were writing about. What started as Chopped Vocals and Shattered Heart eventually distilled into simply Chopped and Shattered.” — Ewa
With its blend of haunting atmospheres, expressive vocals, and dynamic electronic production, BURN’s debut album unfolds as a compelling work of dark electronica, rooted in contemporary trip-hop influences.
