Lyra K
Lyra K is a Johannesburg-based singer-songwriter and alternative pop artist. At just 18 years old, she already stands out as one of the most independent voices in South Africa’s emerging music scene—understated, honest, and direct. She writes her own songs, plays piano, and is also a professional equestrian: two disciplines that share more than one might expect, requiring precision, body awareness, and the ability to let go at exactly the right moment.
Her music explores what remains after a relationship, a place, or a chapter of life comes to an end. Her songwriting is rooted in vivid, tangible moments: a car ride, a sunset, a specific memory shared with someone. Catchy melodies meet lyrics that reveal rather than explain—creating songs that feel familiar even on a first listen.
Her debut album Seasons (released 4 September 2026) was produced in its entirety by Howie Combrink at The Hit Lab and conceived as a complete conceptual work. Each season represents an emotional state, while every song captures a step on the journey from loss towards acceptance. Previous releases include “Saturday”, a laid-back track about road trips and the fleeting feeling of having no obligations; “Echoes of Us”, a reflection on connection and the traces people leave behind; “Foreign”, an exploration of new perspectives and spiritual self-discovery; and “F.A.F.O.”, which tells the story of letting go after a breakup, even when feelings remain. Together, these four songs have already accumulated more than 851,000 streams on YouTube.
On 3 July 2026, Lyra K released “Goodbye”, the latest single from the album. The track marks her first clear step towards folk-country and Americana influences—a deliberate stylistic shift that mirrors its theme: the end of a love that has grown cold and the courage to choose oneself. Within the narrative of Seasons, “Goodbye” represents the turning point where healing begins—not because the pain disappears, but because peace is found in the act of letting go. Further album tracks such as “Breath” and the ballad “Lighthouse” continue this emotional journey, portraying a year of inner transformation and change.
With Seasons, Lyra K introduces her debut album as a cycle of four seasons, four emotional temperatures, and four states of being—a journey through loss, resilience, acceptance, and renewal.
