Malou Lovis
A lot has changed for Malou Lovis since she won The Voice of Germany in December 2023. Malou grew up in the German countryside, in a house with a garden and full of instruments, three siblings and ‘very cool’ parents, as the 25-year-old explains. These two free spirits instilled a love of (live) music and traveling in the former school band singer from an early age. Despite studying social work in Cologne, Malou always knew: music, that’s it! After traveling to Spain she applied to take part in The Voice of Germany – a programme she has been watching on TV since she was a child.
In the show Malou Lovis not only dazzled her coaches Bill and Tom Kaulitz, but also The Voice audience with her unagitated yet open-minded and extremely likable manner and her warm, soulful voice – and won the title! James Blunt sang his song ‘All The Love That I Ever Needed’ with her as a duet and the Kaulitz twins asked Malou live on camera to accompany them as a support act for Tokio Hotel on their next tour (2025). In the final of the show, she performed ‘Glacier Rivers’, her debut single, which she co-wrote. In the song she addresses her coming out sending a clear signal against homophobia and queerphobia, a message the artist herself would have wished to have seen as a teenager on TV.
After winning The Voice of Germany, the singer and songwriter made TV and live appearances in front of large audiences, such as at the New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate (in front of 65.000 people) or ‘Schlag den Star’. A contract with the Berlin label Embassy of Music, songwriting sessions with musicians who are now her colleagues and many new encounters later, Malou is ready to take off with new, expressive music – and maybe she’ll even be performing live on stage again this summer. Stay tuned!
